I was in a workshop today about a technical area of my business: mainly, insurance. The speaker was very knowledgeable, and took us through a number of issues where the uninformed (which is most of us) can get in trouble unless forewarned. Forewarned is forearmed, isn't that the saying? So there we were, warning ourselves about what NOT to do or NOT to forget or what? What would happen if we did this or that or did not do this or that? Well that is where fear came in. Fear is a great cover, a great motivator, a great smokescreen for reality. But it is NOT enough. Never let fear be the determining factor in what you do. Lead with something better: honor, dignity, love, respect, all the good terms and more, but not FEAR. Fear is there to guide us and protect us, it does that well. But Fear all by itself is not inspiring enough to be a good motivator. Fear all by itself is a dead end. It just stops us or protects us. But we need some of the other great emotions to complete us: love joy anger sadness, the whole nine yards. Or in the words of AI:
Fear is anunpleasant emotion experienced in response to perceived danger or threat. It'sa natural human response that can lead to physical and psychological changes, including the "fight-or-flight" response. While fear is oftenassociated with negative emotions, it can also be a survival mechanism, alerting us to potential harm and prompting us to take action.
